SecMidwest was founded on the principle that security isn’t just for security professionals. We designed our organization that anyone with an interest in technology and specifically security could come and learn principles that they can apply personally and professionally.
SecMidwest was founded in 2017 by then President Chris Scott, VP Aaron Voss, Treasurer Kolin Gage and Secretary Thad Lux. In 2018 Paul Nus was brought onboard as our 5th board member to round out our team.
Since that time, SecMidwest has strived to help grow individuals, reached out to create new opportunities and has seen itself grow as an organization. We can only imagine what the future will bring.
What is SecMidwest?
SecMidwest is a gathering of individuals who want to learn, grow, network and interact with other technology and security minded individuals.
Is SecMidwest for me?
If you enjoy or work with technology and security on a daily basis, we welcome you to join.
Do I need to be a security expert to attend SecMidwest?
We want people of all levels of knowledge to attend. One of our key strategies is to foster learning and growth from the community. If you want to learn, or have been in the industry for decades, we want everyone to find value.
What does a typical meeting look like?
A typical meeting starts with food, beverage and some social time where attendees can mingle and talk.
After a 15 minute introduction involving the state of the organization, we have a larger presentation or speaker,
followed by an update on the CTF and time to work on it in a group setting.
Does SecMidwest ever do anything not security related?
While security is our main objective, we also do other various fun technical things including stuff with 3D Printers and lock picking.
What if I want to learn more about a specific subject?
Let us know and we will try to find resources and/or a presentation relevant to that topic.
How much is SecMidwest?
There is never any charge to come to a SecMidwest meeting. We may ask for donations from time to time but it is not required.
